Data localization provisions removed from draft DPDPB

India's Minister of State for Electronics and Information Technology, and Skill Development and Entrepreneurship Rajeev Chandrasekhar said data localization provisions were changed in the recent version of the proposed Digital Personal Data Protection Bill, The Hindu Business Line reports. "We want to create a framework for every legislation that allows it to evolve and we certainly will not impose hardcore data localisation as a condition," Chandrasekhar said.

AEPD releases list of all sanctioned public administrations

Spain’s data protection authority, the Agencia Española de Protección de Datos, published a list of public administrations "sanctioned" for failing to uphold citizens' rights to data protection. Some public administrations did not comply with AEPD information requirements and others did "not adapt the data processing to the law and (did) not accredit the corrective measures imposed." Other administrations did not appoint a data protection delegate despite being a locality of more than 20,000 citizens.

Mobile data broker asks judge to dismiss class action suit

Mobile data broker Kochava asked an Idaho District Court judge to dismiss a U.S. class-action lawsuit brought by California and Washington state smartphone users who allege the company sold their geolocation data, MediaPost reports. The company claimed users could not assert they were harmed as the result of the alleged sale, and even if they could, the company claimed it did not violate state law.

US reps. reintroduce Online Privacy Act

Italy's data protection authority, the Garante, published an information page on dark patterns. The Garante said the resource explores the "increasingly widespread phenomenon" of deceptive design patterns that are "still unknown to most users of digital services" and is "part of a large information and awareness project on data protection, digital education and safety, for a conscious use of the Internet and new technologies."Full Story
