Report shows drop in US agencies' FISA Section 702 searches

A report filed by the Office of the U.S. Director of National Intelligence shows warrantless searches under Section 702 of the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act dropped 96% last year, CyberScoop reports. US prosecutors seek 15 month sentence for former Uber CISO

U.S. prosecutors asked a federal judge to sentence former Uber Chief Information Security Officer Joe Sullivan to 15 months in prison after he obstructed an investigation into the company, BankInfoSecurity reports. In October 2022, Sullivan was convicted on charges of obstruction and misprision of a felony, "which refers to knowing something is a felony and covering it up." The charges stemmed from an hacking incident in 2017, where Sullivan oversaw the payment of USD100,000 in Bitcoin to two hackers under the guise of a "bug bounty" payment, but mislead the U.S.

Australian regulators: Get 'back to basics' this Privacy Awareness Week

Marking Privacy Awareness Week 2023, 1-7 May, Australian privacy regulators urged individuals, organizations and agencies to get "back to basics" on privacy. In a joint statement, regulators from New South Wales, the Northern Territory, Queensland, South Australia, Tasmania and Victoria joined Information and Privacy Commissioner Angelene Falk in noting organizations and agencies should collect only necessary personal information, take steps to reasonably protect it and delete or permanently deidentify data when it is no longer needed.
