G7 commits to devising global AI standards

G7 nations announced a collaborative effort to "advance international discussions on inclusive artificial intelligence governance and interoperability." Following their latest summit, G7 leaders said work on global AI standards will be "respectful of legally binding frameworks" governance and varying "approaches and policy instruments to achieve the common vision and goal of trustworthy AI." Leaders added AI governance has "not necessarily kept pace" with the rise of AI-powered technologies and standards need to "continue to be updated in line with our shared democratic values."

EU lawmakers to begin negotiations on Cyber Resilience Act

EU lawmakers next week will discuss areas of compromise on the proposed Cyber Resilience Act, Euractiv reports. Main points of discussion around the proposal regulating cybersecurity of connected products include manufacturers' obligations, reporting, compliance and enforcement. The proposal's scope has been expanded to include products with digital elements that can directly or indirectly connect to a device or network.

Before she could imagine privacy as a career, field or legal practice, Lynn Parker Dupree, CIPP/G, CIPP/US, was a teenager who "intrinsically" knew her personal information was important. When she started in the field as special assistant to the chief privacy officer at the U.S. Department of Homeland Security in 2009, it was an "immediate fit" that launched a career across the U.S. government and private sector — including a return to the DHS as the chief privacy officer.

IAB Europe releases Transparency and Consent Framework 2.2

IAB Europe's Transparency and Consent Framework Steering Group released its Transparency and Consent Framework Version 2.2. The central policy amendments include removing the legitimate interest legal basis for advertising and content personalization, improving information given to end-users and requiring vendors to provide additional information on their data processing activities.
