New UK-US economic partnership boasts AI, privacy commitments

A fresh economic partnership agreed to by U.S. President Joe Biden and U.K. Prime Minister Rishi Sunak includes enhanced collaboration on privacy and artificial intelligence. On privacy, the two sides touted improved pacts on data flows and privacy-enhancing technologies. With AI, the U.S. and the U.K. will "accelerate our cooperation" with an eye toward "safe and responsible development" of technologies.

Nevada passes health data privacy bill

The Nevada Legislature granted final passage to SB 370, a health data privacy bill modeled after Washington's My Health My Data Act. The bill was amended before final passage by the Nevada State Assembly 5 June to include an exemption for profiling that does not include personal health data and a new effective date of 31 March 2024. Unlike Washington's law, SB 370 does not carry a private right of action.

Netherlands DPA seeks information on how ChatGPT algorithm learns from users' inquiries

The Netherlands data protection authority, the Autoriteit Persoonsgegevens, is seeking further clarification from OpenAI about how its generative artificial intelligence chatbot ChatGPT handles personal information. The AP is inquiring if the ChatGPT algorithm is trained on answers to questions that may contain sensitive personal information.
