A compromise bill would establish an AI Office to oversee enforcement aspects of the law, but would have EU countries carry out its tasks. The majority of class-action lawsuits claiming a violation of the U.S. Video Privacy Protection Act have been voluntarily dismissed, Bloomberg Law reports. After VPPA lawsuits hit a peak in September 2022, lawsuits have slowed due to companies bolstering VPPA compliance with more than 85% of cases being dismissed voluntarily this year.Full story
The chief executives of Discord, Snap and X, formerly known as Twitter, have been called to testify before the U.S. Senate Committee on the Judiciary 6 Dec. about their efforts to stop child online sexual abuse, MediaPost reports. Colorado Attorney General Phil Weiser published a list of recognized universal opt-out mechanisms under the Colorado Privacy Act. Per CPA Rule 5.07, Weiser's office is to maintain a "shortlist" of verified mechanisms that meet requirements under the CPA, which must be published by 1 Jan. 2024 and then updated on a rolling basis. The list currently holds three mechanisms, including the Global Privacy Control.Full story
