UK seeks to prevent industries from paying ransomware groups

The U.K. government introduced a proposal to prevent public services, including hospitals and schools, from paying ransomware groups after a data breach, Infosecurity Magazine reports. U.K. Security Minister Dan Jarvis said the proposal aims to "meet the scale of the ransomware threat, hitting these criminal networks in their wallets and cutting off the key financial pipeline they rely upon to operate."Full story

FTC finalizes enforcement orders against data brokers

The U.S. Federal Trade Commission finalized an order against data broker Mobilewalla barring sales of sensitive location data. Per the order, Mobilewalla is banned from collecting consumer data from real-time bidding advertising exchanges and from making false claims over how it collects, maintains, uses, deletes or discloses consumers personal information, as well as how it deidentifies location data.

US court rules Google, YouTube must face parts of children's data collection lawsuit

The U.S. District Court for the Northern District of California ruled Google and YouTube must face some claims in a class-action lawsuit related to alleged "highly offensive behavior," which amounted to intrusion upon seclusion through the collection of children's personal data without their parents' consent, Bloomberg reports.
