Co-rapporteurs circulate latest AI Act compromises

Proposed Artificial Intelligence Act co-rapporteurs Brando Benifei and Dragoș Tudorache offered a new set of compromise texts concerning a range of disputed topics in the EU proposal, Euractiv reports. Updates were offered on provisions for prohibited practices, high-risk AI obligations, regulatory sandboxes and the role of a dedicated AI enforcement office. The new proposals were a product of feedback from a recent political meeting among members of European Parliament aimed at finalizing their position on the draft.

US Chamber of Commerce argues against California children's code

The U.S. Chamber of Commerce is urging a court to block the California Age-Appropriate Design Code, MediaPost reports. In a friend-of-the-court brief filed in response to a lawsuit by technology industry organization NetChoice, the Chamber of Commerce argues the law is invalid because it "adopts a new threshold standard" beyond the federal Children's Online Privacy Protection Act.

Password manager finds hackers accessed home computer of engineer

Officials at password manager company LastPass announced an update to its investigation of two security breaches in August and December 2022, Engadget reports. The company found hackers infiltrated the home computer of an engineer "by exploiting a third-party media software package" and implanted a key logger on the software. The key logger captured the engineer’s master password, which had a key for the company corporate vault.
