NGO claims DSAR language weakened in proposed UK data reform bill

U.K. advocacy group Open Rights Group accused members of U.K. Parliament of weakening provisions governing data subject access requests in the proposed Data Protection and Digital Information Bill. The bill's DSAR language previously mirrored the EU General Data Protection Regulation, which allows organizations to charge for a DSAR only under "manifestly unfounded or excessive" conditions. However, the changed language allows organizations to charge for a DSAR in the U.K.

India's opposition party seeks further review of proposed data protection bill

The Wire reports opposition party members in India's Lok Sabha are urging the proposed Digital Data Protection Bill be referred to a parliamentary standing committee for potential amendments. The draft bill was introduced to Indian Parliament 3 Aug., but opposition lawmakers continue to raise concerns about central government exemptions in the bill and a potential "surveillance state" stemming from the exemptions.

Meta preparing to launch chatbots with unique and historical 'personas'

Meta will reportedly debut multiple artificial intelligence-powered chatbots as early as September, according to three individuals "with knowledge of the plans," the Financial Times reports. The launch is an attempt to increase user engagement with Meta's social media platforms and the bots could feature the "personas" of former U.S. President Abraham Lincoln and a travel companion who emulates a surfer.Full story
