OAIC to pursue AUD21.5 trillion fine against health insurer for 2022 breach

The Office of the Australian Information Commissioner is pursuing a AUD21.5 trillion fine against health insurer Medibank in connection with its 2022 data breach that exposed the sensitive personal data of more than 9 million citizens, ABC News reports. "This is a wakeup call because it really sends the message to companies that this is an issue of corporate responsibility, as well as a legal responsibility," Privacy Commissioner Carly Kind said.

US DOJ, FTC to divide antitrust investigation into leading AI firms

The U.S. Department of Justice and Federal Trade Commission reached an agreement on pursuing antitrust investigations against Microsoft, OpenAI and Nvidia over their alleged monopolistic roles in the artificial intelligence industry, The New York Times reports. Per the agreement, the DOJ will lead the investigation into Nvidia, while the FTC will head the investigations into OpenAI and Microsoft.Full story
