Lurn, led by CEO Anik Singal, was found to be promoting unrealistic earnings promises through its various courses, including claims that consumers could become “Stay-At-Home Millionaires” or make over $11,000 a month despite “failing 98% of the time.” These types of exaggerated statements lure individuals into purchasing expensive programs, but the reality often falls far short. In fact, the FTC’s investigation revealed that very few consumers actually earned money through these programs, even though they were marketed with endorsements that promised substantial profits.
The FTC’s actions against Lurn underscore the fact that businesses must back up their promises with verifiable data and avoid making inflated claims that could mislead potential customers. As part of the settlement, Lurn and its CEO have been ordered to pay $2.5 million in consumer refunds, and they are prohibited from making misleading earnings claims in the future.
